INORMS members

The geographic spread of INORMS encompasses the USA, EU, Australasia, Pacific Rim, and Southern Africa, with seven societies currently active members:

Association of Research Managers and Administrators (UK)

Formed in 1991, ARMA is the professional association for research managers and administrators in the UK, and currently has around 1100 members. The majority of ARMA's members are from UK universities, but the association also includes members from hospitals, research institutes and funders, from the UK and other countries in Europe and Africa. ARMA's mission is to facilitate excellence in research by identifying and establishing best practice in research management and administration, which is does by providing training for research managers and administrators; promoting networking activities for the exchange of best practice and for mutual support amongst members; and raising the profile of research management and administration as a profession.

Australasian Research Management Society

ARMS was formed in 1999, and has members working in universities, hospitals, medical centres, industry, government and research institutes.

Canadian Association of University Research Administrators

CAURA was formed in 1971, and has members in universities and other post-secondary institutions, hospitals, and research institutes.

Danish Association of Research Managers and Administrators

DARMA was formed in 2006.

European Association of Research Managers and Administrators

EARMA was formed in 1994, and has members in public and private research organisations from over 30 countries across Europe.

National Council of University Research Administrators

NCURA, founded in 1959, is an organisation of over 7,000 individuals with professional interests in the administration of sponsored programs at colleges, universities, teaching hospitals and independent not for profit research institutes. NCURA’s core mission is education and it does this by providing over 40 programmes each year with its training workshops, national conferences, television broadcasts, and on-line tutorials. In addition, NCURA has a robust web site that includes virtual communities, designed by topic area, where colleagues may find the latest information and ask questions or provide information to each other. While NCURA’s virtual communities are designed for its members, it has an International Community which is open to the world with the hope of sharing information and to promote understanding of research management practices throughout the profession. The Council publishes a news magazine five times per year and has an on-line professional journal, Research Management Review. In addition to the news magazine and journal, NCURA is the publisher of numerous books on sponsored programs management. Each November, NCURA presents an Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., where over 2,000 of its members gather for three days of continuing education with over 100 training sessions and workshops. The Council maintains a national office in Washington, D.C.

Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association

SARIMA was formed in 2002, and has members across Southern Africa, including South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Lesotho.

Society of Research Administrators International

Founded in 1967, the Society of Research Administrators International is a nonprofit association dedicated to the education and the professional development of research administrators, as well as the enhancement of public understanding of the importance of research and its administration. The Society's mission reflects the following purposes: The education of research administrators, professionals in related fields, and the public through the exchange of information, individual contacts, professional presentations, formal and informal meetings and publications and the improvement of communications among researchers, host institutions and organizations, the sponsors of research administrators, and the general public. Through innovative programs and a wide variety of outreach programs, SRA International continuously seeks to broaden and diversify its membership base of over 3,500 individuals world wide. SRA International's mission and objectives reflect the demands of a growing profession. SRA International membership is drawn from universities, corporate businesses, health care facilities, governmental agencies, and non-profit organizations.

West African Research and Innovation Management Association

WARIMA was formed in 2007, and is currently recruiting its first members.

Global Research Management Network

The Global Research Management Network, managed by the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is also a member, and is supported by other INORMS members.

 

The Swiss Association of Research Managers and Administrators (SARMA) is a founder member of INORMS.

New Societies are encouraged to join INORMS, and member societies support the development of similar associations in under-represented areas.
